Almost Out

Ben’s surgeon just came out and he is almost finished. The short answer is that they don’t know what is wrong.

The longer answer is something that has to do with air bubbles and fibers, that after asking twice, I still don’t fully understand. The illeostomy had healed, the pouch looked good, there were no obvious signs of leaks. It was clear that air “got out” but no sign of where it came from. There was no stool outside of the intestines, so I suppose that is the good news.

Ben has a loop illeostomy again which will allow everything to heal. Because it is 4:00 AM, and most of the hospital- including the recovery area-is closed, he’ll go to ICU to recover before coming back to his room.

Hopefully he’ll be able to give a better update tomorrow.

Thank you for letting us know how Ben is doing. I’m so glad there wasn’t any stool leakage. Hang in there, I know it’s got to be difficult for both of you.

Thanks for the update, I’m glad it sounds like at least that the surgery didn’t have any issues, even if the problem hasn’t been discovered yet.
