Changing My Stoma Bag

Going into my surgery, the ileostomy was by far the scariest/least comfortable part about the whole deal. In many ways, it still is. But it’s not as bad as I feared it would be. For whatever reason, it’s just not as bad as it looks when it’s attached to your body. And feeling generally excellent otherwise doesn’t hurt either…  After the jump, I’ve posted some (graphic) step-by-step videos showing how the bag is changed. I’ll need to change the bag about twice a week and empty it (which is easy) about 3-4 times a day. NB: The videos are up close and personal, may gross some people out, may make some folks uncomfortable, and may not be suitable for work. But I think they’re useful for folks considering this surgery…
